Venice Villa
Venice Villa is a private residence in Sai Kung, New Territories. The living room sets a navy wall against a beige-grey velvet sofa, with a glass-block screen beside it letting light through; a wine cabinet is built in under the kitchen island, and the folding window looks straight out to the garden, so cooking comes with the view.
A dark blue wall sets the tone in the living room, matched by a grey sofa and a timber side table; full-height glass doors open straight onto the garden, so inside and outside read as one.
Brass-framed glass sliding doors frame the living room like a picture and stay clear when closed; the stone-effect floor runs in from outside the doors, its light and dark bands shifting in the light.
The corridor is left bare as a gallery, where a single picture closes the view; the floor changes from light timber to dark, marking the division of space.
Two concealed doors disappear into the timber wall, dark brown and grey-brown grains facing each other; the floor changes from patterned tile to marble, and the join lands exactly on the centre line of the wall.
The space under the stairs is built as a pet house, with a playful arched opening; a gold handrail against the white staircase keeps the detailing composed.
Black-and-white chequered floor tiles set the tone, with red curtains as the accent; full-height cabinetry runs along the wall and provides all the storage in one go.
The open kitchen has an island, with timber-grain cabinetry carrying a stone top; the built-in appliances are lined up in order, and the whole run reads clean and tidy.
Teal strip tiles run from the floor up the wall, with two niches opened in the middle; concealed light washes down from the top of each niche, and the glaze reflects it as a wash of water colour.
The freestanding bath sits by the window, where the dark stone-effect wall meets the frosted glass shower; a band of blue-green tile shows at the door and lends the cool palette a little warmth.
