The Gloucester
A private residential flat at The Gloucester, in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island. Black, white and grey set the tone throughout, and a full-height white run extends from the entrance hall into the flat, handleless and flush at every join; counters and cabinet edges are finished in dark charcoal, set against the white door panels.
Grey cabinets with black shelving keep the tone settled without weighing the room down; the stool and the pictures can be swapped at any time, so the wall stays flexible.
Black, white and grey set the tone, and full-height handleless white units open out along the wall; black shelves over dark timber flooring give the calm some weight.
White cabinetry meets a dark worktop, with storage carried right up to the ceiling; the narrow room is divided along straight lines, so everything stays in order.
Black shelves meet stainless steel uprights to make a half-open divider; one table lamp and a few pieces are just enough.
Worktop and wall are both white, with a black extractor hood set in across them; grey stone-effect tiling picks up on the right, the cool and the warm divided by a single straight line.
The bedroom pairs a grey upholstered headboard with floor-to-ceiling glazing, so the sea view becomes the backdrop; the dark bed frame anchors the room and keeps the sleeping area quiet.
The white wardrobe runs from floor to ceiling, split by a single black reveal; the bedroom door is the same white as the cabinets, so the wall reads as one surface when closed.
Two books and a small plant sit on the black cabinet top, and the rest is left clear; the white wardrobe doors are flush and handleless, black and white meeting face to face.
Grey panelling forms the wall behind the bed, finished part-way with fine grooves and the switches set in; the black bedside table runs in line with the low cabinet, and the dark tone holds down the whole sleeping area.
